Just O’Breen (1911 born in Persidi, near Puwoerjo, Central Java).

  • 1934 teacher at the Dutch Chinese school in Toeloengagoeng.
  • 1935 teacher at the 5th European primary school (Kebon Sirihweg) in Batavia. Aunt Jan also came there to work as a teacher in 1936.
  • May 15, 1937 engaged in Bandoeng (with advertisements in the newspaper in Bandung and Batavia announced).
  • 1937 teacher at the Dutch Department of the Dutch Natives school in Padangsidempoean (residence De Bataklanden), correspondent of the Delicourant concerning regional events, secretary of the “soos” (society organization) (organizing activities and managing drink stock).
  • September 1, 1937 married with the glove (Janneke was still in Batavia).
  • Initially Just and Janneke stayed in the pasanggrahan of Padang Sidempoean, Pasanggrahan, a government building erected for temporary stay of officials while travelling; also used by private individuals.
  • 1938 Omi came to live with Just and Janneke and brought the new board game Monopoly along!
  • 1938 Omi treated both daughters and families to a 14-day holiday at lake Toba (hotel Siuhan), including visit to the island of Samosir.
  • 1939 on leave to the Netherlands on the Johan de Witt van Maatschappij Netherlands.
  • Just got the certification for teaching Malay and Geography and Ethnology in December 1939 and June 1940.
  • Invasion of the Germans in the Netherlands: May 10, 1940.
  • July 20, 1940 arrested by the Germans as on leave in the Netherlands from the Dutch East Indies (countermeasure after all Germans in Dutch East Indies were interned) and taken to Buchenwald. November 1941 moved to the Netherlands (prisons in Haaren, Beekvliet, Ruwenberg, Vught).
  • February 1945 enlisted by Governor General van Mook for the “reconstruction of the Indies”.
  • August 1946 Just went back to the Dutch East Indies by DC-4. In November 1946 Janneke and Bim followed.
  • Just was appointed “official at the disposal of the Inspector, Eastern Education” in Bandjermasin, South Kalimantang (Banjarmasin).
  • After the war, it was decided to open schools with Dutch as the language of instruction and schools with Indonesian as the language of instruction.
  • October 1947 Promoted to Inspector Oriental Education in Pangkalpinang (on the island of Bangka, Sumatra), eventually for Bangka, Biliton and Riouw.
  • December 1949 transfer of the colony signed.
  • Just handed over his position on May 16, 1950.
  • 5 January 1951 traveled to the Netherlands on the Oranje.
